Bandits in the East!
I was having my midnight snack when I heard an unusual sound. It brought me to my Gramma's bedroom window. Now it was very dark out because it was so late but I could smell 'em...I could smell 'em and hear 'em! Those pesky raccoons! They run around the yard making quite a racket for themselves. When they get upset with each other, they scream and yell! It's enough to wake the dead!! Sheesh. Anyway, I was listening to them and noticed that they make a chittering sound much like me. Now I don't think they were making that sound because they spotted a buggy or a bird, no...I think they were just plotting out their next move to take over the garbage pails! Maybe they were chittering because Mommy outsmarted those bandits by putting our garbage pails in a rubbermaid garbage bin! (HA!)
The Indians called the raccoon, aroughcun, which means "he scratches with his hands". That's where they got the name raccoon. What is it that makes them so interested in garbage? Probably because they eat just about anything that won't eat them! Raccoons wash their food before eating it. DUH! Wouldn't you wash your food if you found it in a dirty garbage can???
-interesting note- Maine Coon Kitties are named for their bushy tail that looks much like a raccoon tail.
