A Streak of Blue
When I looked out the window this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see a blue jay. Those birdies are bigger than the usual sparrows and chickadees we get around here...I bet they taste good too! I could only chitter at them from the window because there's this strange see-through material that keeps me from getting outside. I can't figure it out. I can smell things through it, look through it, hear things through it but I can't get through it! What is that stuff?!?!?
Anyway, back to the Blue Jay. I like these birdies because they have vivid blue feathers. Did you know that they are related to the Crow? Yea, I think it's because they're so noisy! Blue Jays are very aggressive and territorial. Groups of blue jays often attack intruders and predators. They drive other birds away from bird feeders (how rude!) The blue jay is also very vocal. It makes a number of different calls including its distinctive "jay- jay." It also growls, whistles and chatters. I chitter. I don't chatter. Blue Jays eat other birds' eggs, acorns, fruit, nuts and insects. Tangie eats eggs too. Guess it's good for them.
After much thought, I believe the Blue Jay to be a beautiful bird on the outside and a mean one on the inside. They steal from others and bully birdies around. There's no need for such behavior. But, they are pretty to look at and a kitty can only dream of snacking on such a fancy feathered birdie...
