How Now Brown Cow

Did you guess the answer to who this birdie is?
Let's see if you came up with the same answer as me...
The males are way darker than the females. In fact, they almost look like two different species all together! Usually these birdies like to travel separately. When the males come into town, the ladies follow about a week later...then all the straglers come the next week. We've been fortunate to have both the daddy and the mommy stop by together for some yum yums!
They have two different kinds of songs. Remember I said he was singing a song with two high glissando notes in it...Here's what I learned about them:
Males select a "singing tree" from which to sing the typical song beginning with two liquid whistles and ending in a rapid glissando sometimes written as bub-blow com seee. This song is almost always accompanied by a " bow" or "tip-over" display toward either a female or a rival male. Another commonly heard vocalization is given just before or during flight. This "flight whistle" consists of two or three clear, high-pitched notes.

The females have a nasty habit. They are much like the mockingbird in that they stick their eggies into other birdies' nests! How rude! This allowed them to go fly off and sit on the backs of big aminals and eat buggies. I dunno...I think that's kinda rude. Did she ever ask permission of these "host" nests to drop off her kids and go have a nice leisurly snack for herself?! NO! That's just rude my friends. I think their eggies are pretty. They remind me of Robin eggies. Blue with speckles on them...shmaybe that's whose nest she will stick them in!So, did you figure it out yet? The name of this little birdie is the brown-headed cowbird. They like to hang on the backs of the big aminals and when the aminal kicks up the buggies that are bothering it, the brown-headed cowbird is there to eat them! What a freeloader! Hangin' around waiting for their meal to come to them...letting other birdies raise their little ones...I dunno. These little birdies have quite the story! But, I still like them very much and can come and eat seed whenever they wants!
