A Sad Song
This morning, I heard a sad song from the front yard. When I got up in my perch, all that was outside was a birdie so I got back down. Then I heard the song again...I decided the only way to figure out who was singing such a sad song, was to stay up in my perch. After a few minutes, the song began again. To my surprise, the little birdie sitting on the porch step was singing the sad lament...his name is Mourning Dove.
The mourning dove is closely related to the pigeon. No wonder the birdie is so chubby! The dove got it's name from the soft, sad, cooing call of the male. It sounds like somebody crying or mourning. That's what got my attention in the first place.
Now, I've read up on the mourning dove. Apparantly, people like to use these defenseless birdies as target practice when hunting season comes around. I don't understand why they'd have to shoot this little birdie. Maybe that's why the dove was crying? Maybe a family member was shot :( I know that would make me cry. Save these Birdies from being hunted!.

The old lady that lives next door to us said that if a mourning dove sings it's song on the roof, a family member dies. How depressing is that?!? I'm glad that I'm not supersitious...if I was, I myself would bring bad luck to Mommy and Gramma. I don't ever want to do that. "I'm a good kitty I am...wash my hands and feet before I came."
